Frustrated?...Planting at the Crystal Coast can be a daunting
and confusing task considering factors our varied temperate zone of
the coast as opposed to the rest of the state, our soils range from
clay to pure sand, the prevailing summer winds off the Atlantic
which are laden with salt, and the occasional strong winds we may
suffer from hurricanes that add to the coat of salt our plants
receive in addition to the copious amounts of water.
Cedar Point Nursery and
Landscaping stock and landscape with plants best suitable to survive
these types of conditions.
In addition to part of Cedar
Point Nursery's list of services we include stabilization of ocean
front dunes using plants appropriate for this purpose. We use
several grasses including sea oats, American beach grass, bitter
panicum, as well as an assortment of very adaptable trees and
shrubs. Here are a few of our storm tolerant, dune stabilizing
staples we keep in stock at Cedar Point Nursery and Landscaping:
-
Indian Hawthorn
-
Pittosporum
-
Vitex
Rotundifolia
-
Bitter
Panicum

We can also
install sand fencing to further stabilize your fragile dunes.
Love a lush
lawn??? The grasses that thrive the best at the Crystal
Coast are "warm season" grasses such as:
|
 |
-
Centipede
grass
-
Bermuda
grass
-
St.
Augustine
-
Zoysia
-
Carpet grass
|
The opposite
of the above would be "cool season" grasses such as bluegrass
and fescues. Many new residents in the area are astounded at
the differences in the installation and care of these different turf
grasses.
Scott has dealt with all of the above grasses for a number of years.
